Welcome to nBB2

nBB2 is the Java counterpart of the phpBB project version 2.0.22.

nBB2 is open-source under the GPL license, same as phpBB. It currently provides almost all the original functionality, with comparable performance. We hope that the remaining features will be implemented and tested by the community. We also hope that nBB2 will gain at least a fraction of the phpBB popularity.

nBB2 is the result of an automated migration from PHP, using the nTile PtoJ product by Numiton. Numiton supports the open-source movement and encourages its specialists to dedicate part of their time to this project.

To prove that automated software translation, when properly done, is a viable option to manual rewrite.

Also, to offer the Java community a time-proven forum solution that has already gained a large user base.

Finally, because we had already made it work :-) nBB2 was one of the real-life projects used to test and enhance nTile PtoJ.
